N/C Operator Expectations

These are the commitments every Net Control operator agrees to when they apply to join the ARCCC N/C roster. New applicants are asked to read and affirm this list one time before their application is sent to the Net Managers for approval. Existing operators are already vetted and do not need to re-affirm.

The expectations

  1. Honor your scheduled commitments. Be available to comply with your commitment when scheduled, as both Primary and Backup N/C.
  2. Pre-net signal check. Backup N/C confirms that the Primary N/C sounds good during the 1925 pre-net announcement.
  3. Test both repeaters. Test both the primary (146.985) and backup (145.190) repeaters prior to the start of the net.
  4. Review preamble & announcements. Prior to the start of the net, review the preamble and announcements. Contact the Net Managers (button in Quick Links) of any items needing attention.
  5. Know the console. Ensure you are familiar with operation of the ARCCC Net Control Console by reviewing the help guides and running test nets. The guided Net Runner for live and test nets has an easy to understand workflow, but you still need to be familiar with how it operates.
  6. Use reliable equipment. Use equipment that has a consistently good signal into the 146.985 repeater, and ideally into the 145.190 backup repeater.
  7. No Echolink for N/C operation. Due to latency issues, Echolink cannot be used for N/C operation.
  8. Cover the Echolink segment. Primary and/or Backup N/C should still log into Echolink prior to the net to check the list for any stations that have not checked in during the Echolink segment.
  9. Stay in touch in real time. Use the N/C Chat function and, if possible, join the Telegram "ARCCC Nets" group to receive real-time updates before and fills during the nets.

Questions or concerns

If anything on this list is unclear or you'd like to discuss a specific situation (extended unavailability, equipment limitations, etc.), use the Contact Net Managers button under Quick Links on the home page. The Net Managers are happy to help you plan around it.
